Character: Takamiya Kaitou
Series: Vampire Knight
Character Age: 22
Job: Ethics Teacher

Canon: Vampire Knight is the story of angsty vampire love triangles, attempts at political vampire shenanigans, and the Hunters who ostensibly keep the vampires in line. Kuran Yuuki and Kiryuu Zero, once childhood friends and prefects at Cross Academy, find their relationship strained when it turns out that Yuuki is not only a vampire herself, but the fiancée of Kuran Kaname, the vampire who orchestrated the ruin of Zero's life. Political conflicts among the vampires only serve to complicate things even more.

Takamiya Kaitou is one of the Hunters caught in the conflict. As a teenager he killed his older brother, who had been turned into a vampire—an incident which irrevocably shaped his views on being a Hunter. Almost a decade later, Kaitou has grown into a hot(shot) Hunter who's been assigned to keep an eye on his old friend Zero, a powerful but increasingly unstable Hunter who was turned into a vampire.

Kaitou is a compassionate person who is deeply dedicated to his professional and personal obligations. However, he's also pragmatic about his compassion, cocky, and just a wee bit ruthless. Nonetheless, despite his brusque, tough-love demeanor, hints of a nascent idealism poke through every now and then. And, though determined to keep Zero sane, he also makes Zero a promise as a fellow Hunter and Zero's brother-in-arms: if Zero should lose his mind, Kaitou will be the one to pull the trigger, for Zero's sake and the sake of everyone around him.

Tell us about yourself in a few words.
I'm Takamiya Kaitou, Hunter and temporary teacher of ethics at Cross Academy. If you have any complaints about the second one, take it up with the Chairman.

Why are you joining our happy community?
I've been assigned to keep an eye on Kiryuu Zero. It's a little hard to do that when he's not around.

Why are you a valuable asset to this camp?
I'm young, attractive, dedicated, and multi-talented. I can hunt vampires, pull off flawless headshots, charm students, and grade papers—all in the same day.

What do you expect from your camp experience?
Relaxation. There can't be too many vampires running around a summer camp.

I fact, I only know of one. But the sun means he won't be going very far, which just makes my job easier.

Do you think you are good in a crisis? Why?
If I couldn't keep my head in a crisis, I'd already be dead. Learning how to keep up when things go wrong is critical for a Hunter. There are always surprises. Usually unpleasant ones.

Would you be able to dispose of the flesh of the undead? How?
...Is the flesh of the undead something I'm likely to encounter in your camp...? I mean, disposing of flesh can't be too hard. Burning would probably work just fine.

What would you consider to be your "soul" animal and why? (this is for purely scientific purposes and will not have consequences during your stay at all. Trust us! :) )
Something impressive and ferocious. Maybe...a bear? No, some kind of dog. A guardian and a hunter both. That's it exactly.

...Though I have to wonder. What kind of science is concerned with souls anyway?

If there was a good dog and a criminal both hanging from a cliff and you could only save one, which would you save and why?
That depends. If it was a petty thief or something like that, I'd save the criminal and let the dog fall. If it was a serial killer or something, I'd let the criminal die and save the dog. Of course, if that kind of thing can't be ascertained, I'd still end up saving the criminal, if only so they could face justice.

Do you have a five year plan in mind?
Let's see if I live another five years first.

What is your job here at CFUD? What do you think that means?
I'm going to be the Ethics Teacher. I'm not sure why a summer camp needs an ethics teacher, but that's what I'm here to do anyway. If it's anything like my last job, it's going to require teaching bored kids about hypothetical ethical dilemmas and marking their terrible papers.

So many terrible papers.
